Mumbai[mithilanchalnews.in]:-The fire started in the Kurangini hills in Theni district of southern Tamil Nadu while a group of trekkers including 25 women and 3 children was on their way back on Sunday.
Several other trekkers included 27 people from Chennai and a dozen more from Tirupur and Erode. There have been 9 casualties due to burn and 30 trekkers have been so far rescued. A few of the rescued victims have severe burn injuries and are hospitalized in Madurai.
A senior police officer of the area had revealed that the students who had gone for trekking had not taken permission from the forest department or the police. There had been many cases of fire in the region over the past few days.
The Indian Air Force helicopters are currently conducting rescue operations and searching for more trekkers who might have been stranded.
