Lucknow’s first international cricket stadium can host IPL match from next year

Lucknow: After Green Park Kanpur, now Uttar Pradesh is going to get another international cricket stadium and it is the Icona Stadium built in Gomti Nagar in Lucknow.

The stadium has been inspected by the International Cricket Council (ICC representative).

Built around 30 acres, this stadium with almost 50 thousand capecity has almost become ready, but this stadium is unlikely to have any match in 2017 this year. One of the IPL matches in 2018 can be here. Although at present, this stadium has got hosted for matches of the Dilip Trophy.

The agreement between the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) and the Ikana Stadium has been signed in the year 2015 for thirty years.




Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association secretary Warveer Singh said in the interaction, “On September 6, the International Cricket Council’s representative Javagal Srinath had inspected the Ikana stadium with officials of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Now it will submit its report to the ICC. After this, it will be decided that this stadium is consistent with international standards of stadium.

A UPCA official denied the news that on October 29, the third one-day match between India and New Zealand will be held in Lucknow’s Ikana stadium. He said that the ICC has not given the green signal to this stadium and only one month and 20 days is left for the match on October 29. Preparations are not possible so soon, so a one-day match on October 29 will be held in Kanpur’s Green Park.

He says that if the UP gets IPL matches the next year, then the stadium will be fully prepared even after a complete effort will be made to make a match at the stadium.
