Ashish Nehra will retire from international cricket on November 1

New Delhi: Team India’s experienced fast bowler Ashish Nehra has announced retirement from cricket. Nehra will say goodbye to his 18-year-old cricketing career after the first T20 cricket to be held on November 1 in his home ground Ferozeshah Kotla New Delhi against newland .

A senior BCCI official told that Nehra has told Chief Coach Ravi Shastri and Captain Virat Kohli about their decision. The ICC will not host the World T20 in 2018, and in such a scenario, Nehra has told the management of the team that it would be appropriate that the junior players performing well should get the opportunity.




In 1999, Nehra, who led India in the captaincy of Mohammad Azharuddin, has played 17 Tests, 120 ODIs and 26 T20 Internationals. He took 44 wickets in Test matches, 157 ODIs and 34 wickets in T20.

Senior officer said, “Yes, Ashish has told both Ravi and Virat that they do not wish to play beyond November 1 when India will play against New Zealand in Ferozeshah Kotla. Of course, it is astonishing. It was thought that he would continue playing against Sri Lanka for the domestic season, but he feels that it is the right time to move forward.

Nehra was recently selected in the Indian team for a series of three T-20 matches against Australia but at that time everyone was surprised when he did not get a place in the playing XI for the first two matches.
