New delhi:: Veteran batsman Yuvraj Singh is hopeful that he will be able to contribute meaningfully to India’s campaign to defend the title during the Champions Trophy from June 1 to 18. In the ICC statement, Yuvraj said, “I am happy to return to the Indian team for the 50-over ICC Tournament and I am very excited about the meaningful contributions made to the team who will go with the goal of defending the title.”
He said, “Like any other ICC tournament this will be a challenging competition in which each team will come here to believe that they will win the titles on June 18 at The Oval.” Yuvraj, who is playing in the Champions Trophy eleven years later, said that it is easy to say in the presence of the top cricket playing nations but it would be very difficult to do so.
Yuvraj, who made his debut in the 2002 competition in Kenya, was a part of all the competition till 2006, but he did not play in the tournament in 2009 and 2013. India is placed in the group stage with Pakistan, South Africa and Sri Lanka. Yuvraj said, “We are in a tough group but at the same time after our very successful domestic season, our team is in the form. We will aim to keep the winning rhythm in the Champions Trophy so that after Australia, you will be the second team to win two consecutive titles. ” Yuvraj said that due to the presence of many NRIs in the UK, they always feel like home playing here.
