LIVE: Counting of votes for Vice Presidential elections continued , naidu to 102 votes, Gandhi to 25

 

Voting ended on Saturday for elections to the country’s 15th Vice-President. In this election, Venkaiah Naidu is on behalf of the NDA, while there is a contest between the opposition from the former West Bengal governor and Gandhiji’s grandson Gopalakrishna Gandhi.

Now the counting of votes will start at 6 in the evening and by 7 o’clock the result will be revealed. However, considering NDA’s clear majority in the Lok Sabha, Naidu’s victory is being considered.

Assistant Returning Officer Mukul Pandey told reporters in Parliament House that 771 out of 785 members of the electoral college took part in the voting till the time of polling was over. In this way, till 9.00 pm, a total of 98.21% voting was registered.

The 14 MPs who did not vote in this election included Congress and BJP 2-2 and 4 MPs of TMC.

“I am not contesting against anybody — individual or party — I’m contesting for vice-president of India. I am known to all members of Parliament and they are known to me,that’s why I’m not even campaigning… I have written a polite letter to everybody and the response is very good.Confident that they all will support me, says  Venkaiah Naidu”

Opposition candidate Gopal Krishna Gandhi said that this fight is of constitutional principles. NDA candidates are experienced people. There is no competition between us.-“Gopal Krishna Gandhi”

A total of 98.21% voting was registered till the end of voting at 5 pm, where a total of 771 members voted.
By 3 pm, 96.4 percent of the votes have been cast, 761 out of 785 votes.

11:50am: Congress party president Sonia Gandhi casts her vote at Parliament.

11:45am: Congress’ Rahul Gandhi and party MPs Jyotiraditya Scindia, Deepender Singh Hooda, Sushmita Dev cast their votes to elect the next chairman of the Rajya Sabha.

11:05am: “I think we will miss him (Venkaiah Naidu) in one place but you will see him in action in another place,” Goa chief minister ManoharParrikar tells ANI while voting.

11am: The Prime Minister also stood in a queue before the voting hall was opened at 10am, reports PTI.

10:55am: There are three queues for voting at Parliament — one each for Lok Sabha MPs, Rajya Sabha MPs and women MPs.

9:50am: Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath and Congress leader Jairam Ramesh stand in queue for casting their vote ahead of the vice presidential election at Parliament.

JDU will support Gopalakrishna Gandhi

In Bihar, the ruling Janata Dal United will be special during this election. During the presidential election, BJD and JDU, who have supported Ramnath Kovind’s candidature, have decided to support Gandhi in the Vice Presidential election. However, JD (U) has abandoned the alliance in Bihar. Together with the BJP formed a new government, but the party is talking about voting in favor of Gandhi, who has been the West Bengal governor in the Vice Presidential election.

Voting has started for the Vice Presidential election in Parliament. Voting started at 10 o’clock will run till 5 PM. Results will also come by seven o’clock in the evening. There are Venkaiah Naidu on behalf of the NDA in the electoral field for the 15th Vice-President of India, while the Opposition is former Governor of West Bengal and Gandhiji’s grandson Gopalkrishna Gandhi.
