Venkaiah becomes vice-president, PM Modi says: Now the common man in the country’s highest posts

The newly elected Vice President Venkaiah Naidu has become India’s 13th Vice-President. He took oath as Vice President of the Rashtrapati Bhavan today and took over as the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha. He is the first Vice President, born in an independent India. He will also give his first speech as Vice President. President Ramnath Kovind administered the oath of office and secrecy to Naidu.

Interestingly, Naidu took oath as Vice President in Hindi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Rajnath and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh also attended Rashtrapati Bhawan to participate in the swearing ceremony organized by Rashtrapati Bhavan. Naidu has taken the charge formally after reaching Parliament.

Modi said that Naidu is the first Vice-President who was born in a free India. He said that Naidu is the son of a farmer and he knows the village well. He was also associated with the JP movement.

He said that the rich also sacrificed their country for freedom. Naidu will give his first speech as Vice President after Thanksgiving speech in the House. Apart from this, BJP President Amit Shah will take oath as the Rajya Sabha member. Amit Shah has reached the Rajya Sabha by winning elections from Gujarat.
