UN Security Council has imposed most stringent restrictions on North Korea

Washington: The United Nations Security Council has unanimously approved the proposal under which the most stringent restrictions have been imposed on North Korea so far. With these restrictions targeting North Korea’s big exports, it will cut 30 percent of the oil supply.

The draft proposal 2375 has been prepared by the US. The 15-member Security Council approved it unanimously.

US ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley said, “Today, we are telling the world that we will not ever accept North Korea equipped with nuclear weapons. Today, the Security Council is saying that if North Korea’s rule does not stop its nuclear program, then we will take steps to stop it. ”

The US Ambassador noted that oil has the main role in creating and delivering North Korean nuclear weapons. He said that as per the proposal, reduction in oil, gas and diesel and heavy fuel oil by 55 percent will reduce North Korea’s oil by 30 percent.

He said, “Today’s proposal completely prohibits natural gas and other co-products of oil, which can be used as an alternative in the event of petroleum loss. This will have a profound effect. “Haley said that it is the most stringent restrictions imposed on North Korea.
