supreme court says right to privacy is fundamental right

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has declared the right of privacy to be a fundamental right. The bench of nine judges of the Supreme Court has unanimously stamped this matter. After this decision, the common citizen has got great relief. The direct impact of this decision is on the Aadhaar card. Now the information about Aadhar card, PAN card and credit card can not be made public This order of the Supreme Court has caused a major setback to the Central Government because the Central Government had argued that privacy can not be given the status of Fundamental Rights.

The Supreme Court has overturned two old decisions of the Supreme Court which came in the 50’s and 60’s. In the case of MP Sharma in the 50’s and 60’s, eight judges of the Supreme Court and six judge judges in the Khadak Singh case said that the right to privacy is not a fundamental right.




These nine judges were included in the Constitution Bench

The constitution bench of the Supreme Court, which has declared the right to privacy as a fundamental right, is headed by Chief Justice JS Kher, Justice RK Agrawal, Justice RF Nariman, Justice Chelameswar, Justice Abdul Nazir, Justice AM Sapre, Justice SK Kaul, Justice DC Chandrachud, and Justice SA Bobde was involved.
