SBI has lowered minimum balance requirement in savings account to Rs 3000 from Rs 5000

New Delhi: State Bank of India, the largest government bank, has given great relief to its account holders. SBI has reduced the minimum balance in savings account, ie the minimum balance in savings account from Rs 5000 to Rs 3000.

State Bank of India (SBI) has reduced the minimum average monthly balance (SAB) from Rs 5000 to Rs 3000 in the Saving Bank Account. With this, the country’s largest bank has reduced the penalty imposed on those who did not accept this limit. The bank said in the statement that the charged charges will be applicable from October.

This largest public sector bank has exempted pensioners, government beneficiaries of Social Benefit Services and minor account holders (Minors) for the minimum balance in the savings account.

Charges were extended by SBI in April
In April this year, SBI reinvested minimum monthly balance (renewal balance) and charges again after 5 years. For the metros, the minimum balance limit was fixed at Rs 5,000, while for the urban and semi-urban branches, this limit was kept at Rs 3000 and Rs 2000 and Rs 1000 for rural branches respectively. The bank said that we have decided to keep metro and urban centers in one category. In these areas now the limit of Rs 3000 will be applicable.

SBI reduces penalties

So far, the minimum balance for the metropolitan banks was coming down from 75% to 100 rupees and GST was being levied on it. If minimum balance comes to 50% or less, then for this, a penalty of 50 rupees was being levied with GST.

At the same time, with minimum balance in the rural areas, the penalty of GST was being levied with Rs 20 and 50 rupees. SBI has clarified that there will be no need to keep the minimum amount in Basic Savings Accounts and Prime Minister Janhana Yojna. The number of bank savings accounts is 42 million. Out of this, 13 crore accounts fall into this category.
