Railway Board chairman AK Mittal resigns after two rail accidents in 4 days

New Delhi: Railway Board chairman Ashok Kumar Mittal has resigned after two railway accidents in four days. AK Mittal has submitted his resignation to Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu. On Saturday last, Kalinga Utkal Express had been caught in the accident in Khatauli of Muzaffarnagar in UP and today ten coaches of Kafeyat Express derailed in Aureya.

After the frequent accidents, there were constant questions on the railway. Opposition was constantly targeting the central government. Former railway minister Lalu Yadav had demanded resignation of railway minister Suresh Prabhu after the Muzaffarnagar incident.

However, after the Muzaffarnagar incident, the Railways had suspended the junior engineer, Senior Section Engineer, Assistant Engineer, Senior Division Engineer, after taking major action. At the same time, the transfer of Chief Truck Engineers of Northern Railway and DRM Delhi, GM North Railway and Member of the Board of Railway Board had been sent on leave.

The train collided with dumper last night. This incident happened between Achalda and Pata railway stations in Auraiya district.

The dumper filled with sand was overturned on the track and the driver ran away without informing the railway officials. After this, Kafeyat Express collided with this dump and ten coaches with his engine derailed.
