CM Yogi, Keshav Maurya, Dinesh Sharma andSwatantradev Singh elected unopposed MLC

Uttar Pradesh’s Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and both Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Dinesh Sharma have been elected unopposed for the Vidhan Parishad. Apart from these three, Swatantradev Singh have also been elected unopposed as MLC. As expected, the opposition parties did not field candidates against the BJP candidates.

In the UPA government, there were four ministers, included the CM Yogi Adityanath, who were neither MLAs nor MLC. In such a situation, it would be necessary to be a member of any single house in the state under 6 months to remain in office.

Adityanath, deputy chief ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Dinesh Sharma and minister Swatantradev Singh had filed their nominations papers for the by-election on Tuesday.

Opposition parties did not field any candidate for the by-election to these five seats.

Adityanath and Maurya had won the last Lok Sabha elections from Gorakhpur and Phulpur (Allahabad) seats respectively.

Adityanath had taken over as the chief minister on March 19. He had to become a legislator within the stipulated six months of assuming office.
