big blow for Australia before first ODI, aaron finch likely to miss chennai ODI

Before the 5-match ODI series against India, there was a major setback to the Australian team. Australia’s explosive opener Aaron Finch is suspected of playing in the first one-dayer against India on September 17 due to a calf problem. Cricket.COM has given this information. Earlier, Finch was not played in the the only practice against Board XI.

Finch was injured during practice sessions at the MA Chidambaram Stadium and after that he was unable to practice further. It was hoped that Finch would play in the first ODI, but he did not take part in the training camp on Wednesday , after which the skeptics increased his play. 30-year-old Aaron Finch is also considered experienced because of playing in the Indian Premier League.

If Finch does not play in the first ODI, then Travis Head or Hilton Cartwright may have to start with David Warner. In the absence of Finch in the practice match against Board XI, all-rounder Cartwright had started the innings, but he was out on zero.

Australia’s caretaker coach David Seker earlier indicated that Travis’s head could be played at number four in the batting lineup.

India, meanwhile, will also miss a key member in the series-opener as the in-form Shikhar Dhawan has been allowed by the BCCI to skip the first three ODIs to remain with his ailing wife. The southpaw has been in brilliant form since returning to the team during the Champions Trophy, and his absence will be a big blow for the Men in Blue. In his absence, Ajinkya Rahane is the frontrunner to open the innings alongside Rohit Sharma.
