Jammu: Pakistani forces targeted Indian posts and settlements on the international border in Jammu district and fired at night. A BSF soldier was also martyred yesterday in the firing.

A senior BSF officer said that for the past four days, Pakistan has been continuously violating ceasefire in which one BSF soldier was killed and some others were injured. The official said that Pakistani soldiers started firing at Indian posts in the Arnia sector near midnight, in response to which the BSF soldier also fired.




“The firing stopped at six o’clock 45 minutes in the morning,” the officer said. The official said that a temple, two houses and three goshalas have been damaged in Pakistan’s firing in Sai, Treva and Jabaul villages. Three cattle were killed in an overnight shootout.

Pakistani troops fired on the international border in Arnia sector yesterday, in which BSF soldier Bijender Bahadur was killed and a villager was also injured. Two Pakistani soldiers were also killed in the counter-attack of the BSF on Thursday, while three Indian soldiers were injured in the Jammu and Poonch district on Wednesday in the firing of the Pakistani army on the International Border and the Line of Control.

According to Indian Army figures, this year, there has been an increase in the incidents of ceasefire violations by the Pakistani army. By August 1, the Pakistani army has violated the ceasefire 285 times, and in 2016, 228 such incidents were recorded throughout the year.
