The five-member constitution bench of the Supreme Court will hear from the petition challenging the constitutional validity of triple talaq, marriage and polygamy in the Muslim community.
The constitution bench headed by Chief Justice JS Khehar is headed by Justice Kurien Joseph, Justice Rohington F Nariman, Justice UU Lalit and Justice Abdul Nazir.
The point is to note that five members of this bench belong to different religions. It is worth noting that in view of the seriousness of the matter, it has been decided to hear it on summer holidays.
The Constitution Bench will hear seven petitions for this issue. Along with this, Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi and senior counsel Salman Khursheed also helped the Constitution bench.
It may be known that in the case of filing an affidavit before the Supreme Court in this case, the Central Government had said that the triple talaq, polygamous practices are not a part of religion. At the same time, the government also said that this practice is against women’s respect and prestige. All India Muslim Personal Law Board says that the court should not interfere in this matter.
