Apart from this, there has been a reduction in transactions in cash. Finance Minister said that 91 lakh new people have come under the purview of tax. They expect that the number of returning tax returns will further increase. The Finance Minister said that personal income tax collection has increased after the ban. He said that honest taxpayers will benefit from the new portal.
Sushil Chandra, chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), said that after filing, e-filing of income tax returns has increased by 22 percent. The head of the CBDT said that 17.92 lakh people have been traced after the note-offs. There is no account of cash deposited. Apart from this, the tax department has detected a million suspected tax evasion cases. They said that unaccounted income of Rs 16,398 crore has been detected after the ban.
Chandra said that cash or cash transactions deposited by 17.92 lakh people did not match their earnings. Of these, 9.72 lakh people have replied to the SMS and e-mail sent by the Income Tax Department.
