australia cancels bangladesh warm up match due to heavy rain

New Delhi / Dhaka: The Australian team, which has reached Bangladesh for a two-match Test series, will now start this tour without any practice match. In fact, due to the continuous rains in Dhaka, water has been filled in Fatullah’s part of Osmania Stadium.

Australia coach Darren Lehmann and captain Steve Smith visited the ground on Monday and seeing the situation decided to cancel the two-day match there. Let us tell you that Australia and Bangladesh had to play two-day matches here on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Jalal Yunus, chairman of the Bangladesh Cricket Board and Media Communications Committee, said, “There are still water in some areas of the ground, so they do not want to play a practice match here.”

The visitors now will continue regular training session at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium ahead of the two-test series, which starts Aug. 27.

Australian coach Darren Lehmann says Bangladesh Cricket tried its best to make matches but due to heavy rains, it could not be possible.”We feel for the people of Bangladesh with the amount of rain they have had. There are a lot of people in this country struggling because of the rain so the thoughts are with them.”

Australia has won all four tests it has played against Bangladesh, but the teams haven’t met in the five-day format since 2006.
